See the Work in Person.
There's a difference between supporting New Faraja from a distance and standing in the courtyard, meeting the children, and seeing exactly where your time and resources go.
Every year, we welcome a small number of volunteers and supporters to visit New Faraja Orphanage Centre in Dar es Salaam. Whether you're considering a short visit or a longer stay, this is a chance to see our work first-hand, build real relationships, and contribute directly to the children's day-to-day lives.
This isn't a tourist experience — it's an invitation to show up, contribute meaningfully, and leave knowing exactly how your involvement made a difference.
What a Visit Looks Like
Depending on the length of your stay and your skills, your time at New Faraja might include:
Supporting daily routines — meals, homework help, play and recreation
Assisting with maintenance, repairs, or facility improvement projects
Sharing a skill — teaching, sports coaching, arts, music, or trades
Spending time alongside the children's caregivers and local staff, learning how the home runs day to day
We work with the New Faraja team to match your time and abilities to what the centre actually needs — not generic "volunteer tourism" activities.
Before You Go: What We Ask
Working with children requires care, and we take that seriously.
A background check is required for all visitors before arrival
A pre-departure orientation covers child protection guidelines, cultural context, and what to expect
We ask all visitors to respect the privacy of the children — this includes not posting photos of children's faces on social media or personal accounts.
Visits are coordinated directly with the New Faraja team, so the home can plan around your time there
