Our Model
Building 10 million confident young people across Africa and Canada
We believe that confidence is the foundation of every life well lived. Through a three-tier model of care, from orphanage support in Africa to parenting programmes and youth integration in Canada, we invest in the conditions that allow young people to know their own worth and act on it.

Tiers of intervention — from individual care to community belonging
-
Research in developmental psychology consistently shows that confidence, a child's belief in their own ability to navigate the world, is the single strongest predictor of long-term wellbeing. More than academic achievement, more than income, and more than circumstance, a confident young person is better equipped to resist negative peer pressure, pursue education, build stable relationships, and contribute meaningfully to their community.
Yet for millions of children, orphaned in sub-Saharan Africa, or navigating the disorientation of immigration to Canada, confidence is precisely what is most at risk. Instability, loss, and social exclusion erode a young person's sense of self. Without intervention, that erosion has consequences that compound across a lifetime. The Haromy and Jay Foundation was founded on the belief that targeted, human-centred investment at the right moments can change that trajectory permanently.
Our Three Tier Model
Our model reflects the understanding that confidence is built in layers — from physical safety and belonging, to family environment, to community and social identity. Each tier addresses a different set of conditions. Together they form a complete theory of change.
Basic Needs
The Foundation of Safety
No child can develop confidence without first feeling safe, fed, and cared for. Through our partnerships with orphanages in Africa, we fund the essential conditions that give children a stable base from which to grow. We focus on three core areas of need: nutrition, housing stability, and access to medical care.
Parenting for Confidence
The Family Environment Matters
Parents and caregivers are a child's first mirror. When caregivers are equipped with the skills, language, and support to raise children with confidence — rather than fear or compliance — the effect is lasting and far-reaching. Our parenting programmes provide practical, evidence-based training in communication, positive reinforcement, and building children's self-belief.
Intergration & Belonging
Finding your place in a new world
For young newcomers arriving in Canada, the challenge of building confidence is compounded by culture shock, language barriers, and social isolation. Without structured support, there is an elevated risk of disengagement from school and community. Our Canadian youth programmes create safe spaces for newcomer youth to assimilate, build social connections, and develop a strong sense of identity, in both their heritage and their new home.
What Confidence Makes Possible
Confident young adults are more likely to enter the workforce, start businesses, and contribute positively to the economic development of their communities.
Economic Contribution
Young people with strong self-belief form healthier relationships, resist negative peer pressure, and are less vulnerable to exploitation and gang involvement.
Academic Resilence Confident children are more likely to persist through academic challenges, seek help when they need it, and pursue further education, breaking cycles of poverty.
Social Connection
The Harmony and Jay Foundation is a Canadian registered non-profit working at the intersection of child welfare, family strengthening, and youth integration. Our three-tier model is designed to address confidence at every stage of a young person's development — from the orphanage to the classroom to the community.
